What is CBN?
CBN stands for cannabinol and is one of the 110+ cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. CBN is typically the oxidation product of THC and other cannabinoids, meaning that THC slowly converts to this cannabinol over time when exposed to light and oxygen. However, CBN can also be derived from hemp and converted from CBD, which is the case in our Downshift blend. CBN has a low affinity for CB1 receptors and binds preferentially to CB2 receptors. When combined with the linalool and beta-caryophyllene terpenes found in this blend, it can be used to effectively support one’s transition into the end of the day.
What are linalool and beta-caryophyllene?
In addition to the CBN distillate, our Downshift blend also features linalool and beta-caryophyllene (BCP), which are terpenes that carry their own benefits. Terpenes are simple, organic compounds that create the scent and flavor of many of our favorite botanicals. Over 100 different terpenes have been identified in the cannabis plant.
This particular blend features linalool derived from Cinnamomum camphora, known as Ho Wood or Camphor tree. Its earthy notes pair well with that of beta-caryophyllene, which is sourced from Eugenia caryophyllata (clove) and has a strong, spicy aroma and taste. In addition to creating the natural, herbaceous taste of this blend, these terpenes have been found to support healthy antioxidant activity as well as healthy inflammatory markers.†
Beta-caryophyllene is also considered a phytocannabinoid because it binds to cannabinoid receptors, particularly CB2. Because CBN also binds to the same receptors, these two compounds make a dynamic duo in supporting internal balance when paired together in our Downshift blend.
